For as long as I have been staying at our family’s summer house( almost 30 years now) one of the nightstands in our bedroom has had an ugly chipboard top in lieu of the marble one like it’s counterpart on the other side of the bed has.
I guess the original marble top must have broken at some point, and nobody has thought to replace it.
Well actually, I’ve thought about it plenty – I just never did anything about it. Until this summer. Not having had any luck finding a marble slat the right size and within my budget, I finally purchased a roll of marble contact paper, and covered that ugly chipboard top. It was a rather complicated and delicate operation, so here is how I did it:
First, I cleaned the chipboard top.
Then I cut the paper to size.
Removed the backing.
Used a plastic spatula to smooth out any air bubbles.
Folded down the edges, like I would have done if I were covering a book.
and voilà!
It only took me 28 years! (and 6 minutes) 😀
Honestly, I’m mostly just annoyed that I didn’t do it sooner…

P.S. See those cushions in the left corner? The pink cover and the floral cover have been up-cycled from a favorite sweater and skirt. Win, win. 🙂
